Geraldine E. Bates of Quakertown, formerly of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital. She was 68.

She was the wife of William J. Bates. They were married 45 years last May.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Cecelia (Kerr) Tempone.

Geraldine was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Quakertown and a former member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Northeast Philadelphia, where she was a choir member and a CCD teacher.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carolyn B. Grove and her husband, Jeff, of Chalfont, and Bernadette B. Piper and her husband, Ed, of Dublin; a son, Louis V. and his wife, Kimberly, of Quakertown; two sisters, Bernice Luongo and Lucille Geller; eight grandchildren, Diana, J.P., Brad, Emily, Jackson, Kasey, Kerri, and Cecelia; and a great-grandchild, JoJo.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, in St. Isidore’s Catholic Church, 2545 W. Pumping Station Road, Quakertown. Calling hours will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, 821 W. Broad St., Quakertown, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to St. Isidore’s Church Building Fund, 603 W. Broad St., Quakertown, PA 18951. C. R. Strunk Funeral Home,
